Is it just me or have other bees noticed the hives "Check Spelling" feature really sucks?

Also does anyone else think the box you have to write posts in is too small? I reckon the lines should be moved up to 10 instead of 5.

We have noticed that as well, but we believe it is better than nothing.

Also does anyone else think the box you have to write posts in is too small? I reckon the lines should be moved up to 10 instead of 5.

Feel free to change it to whatever you want.

Click on the "Profiles" link at the top of the page, then on the link "Edit Display Settings" and there you edit the following settings:

Size of the posting and private message text input fields:

Length:
Height:

      ispell

i use ispell and it's pretty decent (except for chemical words).

aspell looks interesting too, but i never tried it - it has perl bindings!

ALternatively, you can copy and paste your post in word or some other word processor, and use the spell check feature there. When I'm posting something particularly long, I will sometimes do this.

Fortunately for me English is my first language and I've always been relatively competent at at spelling and grammar. My french on the other hand... frown

With all the slang...bad grammar and bad spellers here....not to mention the abbreviations and as hypo points out "chem words" you expect any spell checker to be accurate enough to handle the deed?
My vocabulary alone could fill a dictionary they've yet to write! shocked laugh
