SWIM has been dreaming of the wonderful fentanyl synthesis on Rhodium's site (https://www.rhodium.ws/chemistry/fentanyl.html), but the first part is not appealing to SWIM. While SWIM has a good amount of laboratory experience, SWIM lacks the theoretical background (SWIM only took orgo 1) to calculate exact amounts for the phase transfer catalysis (best guess is to just use 30mmol of the 2 reactants since Rhodium mentioned it being a "molar run" in a previous post, and 30mmol of TBAB is specified), and generally not thrilled about it being done in a liter of acetonitrile with over 400g K2CO3. Anyway, SWIM was reading related documents, noticed the CAS number for the product of the PTC reaction NPP, and came up with a company selling it through a nice online order form (same FW as the diagram to confirm more), thats not Sigma, and lets you order without a formal account. SWIM does not believe NPP is a controlled substance, or a List I/II chemical... but SWIM asks people here whether this is an incredible find, or a trap or something SWIM should avoid like the plague? |

I'd say that NPP is a highly suspicious compound, used very seldom for other purposes than synthesizing fentanyl analogs. The Hive - Clandestine Chemists Without Borders |
